2018 is here!

Given that it had been quite difficult and a bit exhausting to get back home after the New Year Celebrations in Downtown Dubai last year, I decided to watch the fireworks closer to home. Every day when I go walking along the marina walk, I go past a point where I can see the Atlantis hotel clearly. So I decided that would be the ideal spot to watch some of the spectacular fireworks that they have for New Year. It’s about a 20 minute walk from where I stay and I was planning to head out at about 11.15pm to make it comfortably.

However, at one point in the evening I grew so sleepy and I dozed off. When I woke with a start realised that it was already 11.35. To say that I literally ran to spot would only be a slight exaggeration. Still, I made it in time and got to see some fireworks not just at the Atlantis but also at the beach and to the far right near Burj Al Arab.

Because I didn’t have enough time to adjust the settings (the fireworks started as I arrived) and I didn’t have a tripod- my photos are a bit meh but I got quite a few nice video clips with my 300mm zoom lens.

I hope you enjoy the clips- wish you all a very happy 2018!
