Himalayan Blue Sheep

During my 5 day trek in the valleys of Ladakh I wasn’t really expecting to see much in terms of wildlife. After all I could hardly expect a snow leopard to come sauntering down (for even at a height of 3500 metres + we were still down) to say hello.

On the last day of the trek I got to observe a herd of Himalayan Blue Sheep from a distance. They were extremely wary and kept moving away every time they spotted our group trying to get closer to them. In the end I had to pull out my 300mm m zuiko lens to snap some pics of the herd.

At least you get an idea of what they look like

They are so very well camouflaged that it is hard to spot them from a distance.

Apparently these sheep are one of the food sources for the enigmatic snow leopard.

They look like antelopes rather than sheep. Lovely!
