A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to sit through morning prayers at Thiksey monastery best Leh. We had to get to the monastery by 6am so we could be there before the prayers started.
However, as a happy by-product I also witnessed sunlight slowly creeping through the valley. It was nice to see the tips of the mountains first touched by the sunlight before the rays hit the valley as well.
This photograph is of the Stok range of mountains. You can get a glimpse of the Stok glacier in the background. Stok Kangri is one of the few mountains taller than 6000 metres which is still accessible fairly easily to non technical climbers so is very popular amongst visitors.
This sunrise also reminded me of the magnificent sunrise I experienced at the South rim of the Grand Canyon three years ago.
