I recently visited the World Heritage Site of Sanchi in Madhya Pradesh, India. Sanchi is very famous for the Buddhist stupas built during and after the reign of King Ashoka of the Maurya dynasty.
However, the vast complex of Sanchi also holds Buddhist temples and monasteries from later times. One such structure is labelled temple 45. In this temple complex I saw what I must describe as the most beautiful and peaceful statue of Buddha that I have ever seen.
It was a cold morning- there was so much fog we could not see beyond 5 or 10 feet. There was nobody else around me and this was the perfect environment to meditate.
