Himeji Castle: The White Wonder

Himeji castle is a wonder. Originally built in the 14th century it underwent modifications until the 17th century after which it has remained more or less intact through four centuries. Himeji castle had been closed for renovations for 5 years until it opened on the 27th of March 2015. I was there 5 days after it opened, restored to its dazzling white state.

We went fairly early in the morning as the crowds were likely to be very heavy. It was also the ‘Hanami’ day- the day when the cherry blossoms were in full bloom so people were out to picnic on the castle grounds.

It looks so picturesque, it must really have been something to be the Lord of the Castle.

Beautiful castle. Hasn’t it been in many Japanese and non-Japanese movies?

I’m not really sure! I don’t remember seeing it in movies but that’s probably because I don’t watch too many movies 🙂
