Weekly Photo Challenge: (Extra)Ordinary

This week’s challenge (yes we’re there again) asks us to post something (Extra)Ordinary- something mundane but something that stands out.

House with Wood and Opus Reticulatum Herculaneum
House with Wood and Opus Reticulatum Herculaneum

On first looks the house above looks mundane and ordinary. However when you learn that this is a house that was buried during the volcanic explosion of Vesuvius in 79AD and is now nearly two thousand years old it strikes you as something that’s quite extraordinary. Herculaneum was unique in that much of the wood that was used in building houses was preserved- something that normally doesn’t happen with the passage of time.
