O for Oleander

Oleander? You would ask. But why?

For one Oleanders are one of the few flowering plants that add a dash of colour to our small garden. This year there were tons of pink flowers that popped up this year.

But more than anything else the oleander plants play host to a lot of butterflies.

And if you were wondering- yes oleanders are toxic. However the caterpillars acquire toxins by eating the poisonous leaves and thereby become less appealing to predators. Cool?

I love oleanders. When I was young I used to beg my mother to buy them for me from flower seller! I love their smell too.
