The Polydactyl Cats of Hemingway House- Key West, Florida

I visited Hemingway House in Key West in late December 2012. One of the main features of the house were the polydactyl cats. Supposed to be the descendants of one original polydactyl cat given to Hemingway by a ship’s captain- all the 50-60 cats in the house carry the polydactyl gene if they don’t visibly have 6 toes. I think Hemingway House was one of the first cat cafe concept houses in the world!

I loved it- kitty looks a bit scrawny though- hope it’s getting enough food 😦

No idea if he gets enough food, this was in a village. But he had an identical twin! And they were playing very robustly. So don’t worry, scrawny he may be, he is cheerful and happy.
