Traveller Myths

Travellers tend to be a superstitious lot and one of the most famous myths going around the world is linked to the Trevi fountain in Rome. Legend has it that if you throw a coin into the fountain (somehow everybody does it with their back facing the fountain) you are assured of a return to Rome. Who am I to challenge this established practice?

The last time I was in Rome I threw a very small denomination coin and it took me nearly 6 years to go back. This time, needless to say I dropped a coin of a higher denomination  😀

Anyway there are a lot of crowded places in Rome but nowhere is humanity massed together to such an effect as in front of the fountain.

Sea of Humans in Front of the Fountain

Wikipedia says that on an average collections from the fountain range to about 3000 euros. I wonder if there are people who “accidentally” fall into the pool?
