Size and Scale

In my earlier post on the elephants I had mentioned that I was amazed by how tall the trees were in comparison to the elephants. We are used to thinking that elephants are one of the largest animals around and that they thereby ought to dwarf everything around them. Not so. The photograph below clearly brings out the massive height to which bamboo trees can grow in comparison with a grown elephant.

I am just readjusting my mental image of bamboo. To my central European mind it were finger long or arm long stalks you can buy as lucky charms or something even smaller you are served in a restaurant or buy in a can.

Definitely nothing that makes an adult elephant look little!
