Fragile But Firm

I take a break from writing about my Himalayan adventures to talk about a minor episode that I witnessed on a visit to Pondicherry.

It was evening and there was a sudden storm brewing on the coast. As we were in a resort on the beach, the winds were all the more powerful and the sky threatened to just open up and pour bucket loads of water on our heads.

People were scurrying for shelter and the wind mercilessly tossed the lighter things that it found in its path. It was then that I noted a small butterfly (species?) perched precariously on a little plant by the pavement. The plant swished and shook in the wind but the butterfly remained calm and steady on the leaf.

Fragile but firm in the face of fury

It was amazing for me to see something so fragile remain so steady and strong in the face of nature. Maybe there is a lesson in there for all of us to learn.
