One of the best things that you can countdown to is an oncoming holiday/ vacation. The second best thing that you could look forward to is a new novel by one of your favourite authors. And considering I’m already on vacation I can only be counting down to a new book release by Guy Gavriel Kay.
Under Heaven will be released in April 2010 and is set in China. The cover of the US edition (below) looks amazing (the UK edition >>here<< looks crap imho!)
For those who have never heard of GGK – this website will give you a fairly comprehensive introduction. The website also lets you read select passages from the books and contains extensive bibiographies for GGK’s research (even more interesting than the books themselves).
Weaving history and fantasy together- Tigana is probably his most popular book and I could probably write an entire blog post on Tigana alone. My favourite however always remains Sailing to Sarantium.
“To say of a man that he was sailing to Sarantium was to say that his life was on the cusp of change: poised for emergent greatness, brilliance, fortune- or else at the very precipe of a final and absolute fall as he met something too vast for his capacity”
I wonder how Under Heaven will compare to his other books. One will have to wait till April 2010….
